- Doug here,
-
- > Maybe, that's because there are sooo many crap games out for the Falcon.
-
- They are a bit grim - aren't they?
-
- > Just look at STEEL TALONS and ROAD RIOT for instance ! Yuk!!
-
- I never did get to actually see that thing, but it doesn't sound all
- that exciting...
-
- > And yes, I don't think LLAMAZAP has much to it either! It's too jerky!
-
- Now that WAS a sad game.... :)
-
- > Of course there are also some good games like ISHAR III, PINBALL DREAMS,
- > TOWERS II (a bit slow, but still good), MOONSPEEDER....
-
- I have seen Towers II, but not the rest. The texturemapping was a bit on
- the 'bendy' side - but there does seem to be a game in there and it has
- a good following on the Falcon.
-
- > There are also a lot of puzzle games, which are good in quality, but I
- > must admit that sometimes when I read a review of a Falcon-game -
- > I think : "Ohh man - Just another puzzler! :-( Why can't people make
- > something more action-packed with good 3D gfx ?!?"
-
- I can't cope with puzzles - they just annoy me. :)
-
- > Actually ZERO-5 was pretty good, but lacked Falcon color and DSP aided
- > 3D, because it had to run on a STE too. Same goes for SUBSTATION - good
- > gameplay, good sound - bad gfx, because of STE comp.
-
- Yes, but the ST can still cope with reasonably good 3D systems so long as
- you don't try to texture map anything. Substation was a bit on the bland
- side for me. I think the ST can still do better.
-
- The ST can deal with texturemapping - but the overheads for each polygon
- begin to build up after you have drawn a few walls & objects.
-
- > Almost none of the avaiable Falcon games really has the good standard that
- > your BAD MOOD engine has. I think if the quality is there, I'm sure a lot
- > of people would buy the game just for the quality - just like many
- > people did with APEX.
-
- Well, I only did the 3D graphics part - there will be others taking over
- pretty soon when I'm finished, so It won't really be 'my' engine at the end
- of the day. I'm sure the credit list will be long and healthy...
-
- The Doom system itself is not all that great, and I look forward to writing
- one from my own designs in the near future. That will be a lot of fun!
-
- > The point is, that no matter what game for the Falcon you look at -
- > almost none of them has all the good elements. Some of the games have
- > good gameplay, some a good plot, some good gfx, some good sound -
- > BUT almost none of them has it all!!
-
- > It's like something is missing......Maybe it's just me....
-
- Yes, I agree. Perhaps you have noticed that most of the 3D Doomy style
- games on the PC are actually good fun? It's not so much the programming
- or the design - it's the fact that the player gets pulled into the
- action. It makes Doom style games much easier to develop into good games
- without needing a great deal of complexity.
-
- After all, they are just souped up first-person versions of Commando or
- Robotron.
-
- :)
